Almost Time to Bash Some Trash at the Trinity River

Won’t be long before Keep Carrollton Beautiful will be cleaning up again. This next event will be at the Elm Fork of the Trinity River on Saturday, September 27th. For the fourth year, they will be participating in the regional Trinity River Trash Bash. They didn't get to clean the river last fall due to rushing, dangerous water, but they are ready to join the other communities along the Trinity again this year.

Keep Carrollton Beautiful partners with Dallas Down River and the Carrollton Evening Lions Club to provide this fun way to clean the river; educate the participants about stormwater pollution and canoe safety; and get to know the river in canoes. Through their partnership with Dallas Down River, Keep Carrollton Beautiful will be providing canoes with safety vests and instruction to the first 75 volunteers (12 or older) who register. From their canoes, the volunteers will pick up all the gushy trash they can find floating in the Trinity along the 12 mile course.

Many citizens don’t realize that anything that gets washed off their yards and off the streets goes directly to the river through stormdrains. Since the Trinity River is a primary source of municipal drinking water in our watershed, it is very important to keep litter and chemicals out of it. This regional Trinity River Trash Bash nets tons of trash from the Trinity every year, as well as educating participants about stormwater pollution.

Those volunteers under age or registered after the canoes are filled will be equipped with supplies to clean McInnish Park on the shore. Everyone will enjoy hotdogs cooked by the Carrollton Evening Lions Club after their hard work.
Dallas Down River partners with Keep Carrollton Beautiful in part to prepare for their Trinity River Challenge. Their 11.8-mile paddle-sport race will be on Saturday, October 11th this year. To get details about the race go to http://www.down-river.com/trc/.

The race has grown in popularity and has an average participation of close to 150 paddlers each year and the public is welcomed to watch.
To register for Keep Carrollton Beautiful’s Trinity River Trash Bash, go to www.KeepCarrolltonBeautiful.org and go to Forms. This is a fun and informative way to enjoy nature and serve your community.

Be sure to clean out your garage, storage shed and back room and bring all your unwanted stuff to Keep Carrollton Beautiful for Texas Recycles Day on November 15th. A list of accepted items is on their website.
